I finished The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton over the holidays & it was absolutely wonderful! It’s a story about a lost child, a terrible secret & a mysterious inheritance.
It keeps you guessing & really makes you think about your ancestry – why it’s important for your present self, your future self & your own family’s future as well. It incorporates the magic of fairytales without being cheesy.
I found myself thinking about the characters when I wasn’t reading & missed them when it was over.
The walled garden, locked and abandoned for 100 years, is the focal point of the book – it’s filled with secrets waiting to be uncovered.
It’s hard to make your imagination come to life but this is similar to what I imagine the garden to look like…
A few of my favorite quotes:
“A girl expecting rescue never learns to save herself. Even with the means, she will find her courage wanting.”
“Memory is a cruel mistress with whom we all must learn to dance.”
“…She’s understood the power of stories. Their magical ability to refill the wounded part of people.”
“You make a life out of what you have, not what you’re missing.”

I have read that as well… and immediately went and read The Distant Hours…also another magical book. Highly recommended!
I will have to pick that one up! I am about to start No Angel so I hope I like it as much as The Forgotten Garden
